Honeybush
Thanks to the terrible weather we have been having lately (check out the selfie), I haven't been able to drive up to my favorite tea shop. While it's not terribly far away, it would take forever to drive up there in the crappy weather we've been getting. Now, thankfully, the bone chilling cold temperatures are gone, but they have been replaced by a thaw/freeze cycle that has turned all sidewalks and parking lots into virtual skating rinks because there is nowhere for the melted water to go. Sigh. I hate winter. On top of that, we have the time change to deal with this weekend. I still remember my Chinese friend asking why we did such a stupid thing in this country. I honestly have no answer for that. I guess that I will just have to drown my sorrows (in a nice cup of tea).
While I can certainly find tea other places that are closer, I can't find my beloved Swiss chocolate tea anywhere else. Thankfully, they offer the option to order online. And, since they offer free shipping on orders over $60, it was the prime opportunity to stock up and try some new things.
Look at all of this glorious, wonderful, yummy tea! The bigger bag is the chocolate tea. A girl has to have her priorities. Since I had such a good experience with the rooibos tea in the tea sampler, I decided to try honeybush. It is described as being similar in flavor to rooibos, but having a sweeter flavor reminiscent of honey.
The look of honeybush is a bit different. It looks like a tiny stick got sent through a mini-wood chipper.
So, when you get them wet, the miniature wood chips get bigger...
Here is the finished product. It has a reddish cast, and does smell and taste a bit like rooibos. They definitely aren't the same as this does taste a little sweeter. I can't say that I really pick up a strong honey flavor, but it is a nice tea. I've enjoyed this many times since I've gotten it, and I haven't even tried steeping it with spices since I enjoy the flavor as it is. This one definitely stays on the buy list.
I hate losing the hour, but I'd rather lose the hour than be on standard time all year so it's dark by the time I can get out and do stuff in the evening. Why can't we just make daylight savings the standard and skip time changes?
ReplyDeleteI agree. The local weather man once said that if we stayed on daylight savings time all year, then we wouldn't have sunrise until 8:30 in the morning during winter. I could handle that. People don't go out and do anything in the morning anyway, especially during the winter.
DeleteThat's for sure. It's not like I really want to rush right outside when the coldest part of the day is just beginning to think about warming up slightly.
