Finland

Finland is described as one of the most northern and geographically remote countries in the world. It marks the border between northern Europe and Russia. It was part of Sweden for a long period of time, then belonged to Russia until 1917. The description of the country is an interesting dichotomy. On one hand they say that it is densely forested. On the other hand, they say about 1/3 of the country lies north of the Arctic Circle. From visiting Alaska, I know that there is a certain latitude above which trees don't grow any more, but looking back at my pictures, I didn't make it above the tree growing latitudes when I went to the Arctic Circle.

Most of what I found about Finland and tea, is that they like bagged tea with cute characters on it. I did eventually find an English language website for this brand, and apparently these characters show up on lots of things, like pillows, towels, duvet covers, and even toothbrushes. If you look far enough on the website, you will see that each character has a name, and a distinct personality. Apparently Moomins are quite popular.
The overall theme I see is that they like their tea flavored, and possibly with a story. This box contains 6 bags each of 6 different flavors: "Wonders of the World" Truffle chocolate, "Cool Story" oven apple, "Longing for Adventure" cookie & cream, "It's Play Time!" bergamot and orange, "Magic Storm" French vanilla & 4 red berries. A comment left on this product says that these are winter flavors, and that they are looking forward to the summer flavors coming out soon.

Moomin does have some competition from Frosman tea. They are a more upscale tea house that offers loose leaf tea (although their opening page was advertising pyramid bags when I clicked in). When I explored the tea varieties available under Japanese organic, I saw the usual matcha, genmaicha, gykuro, etc. They have a variety of flavors available, and kind of remind me of some of my local loose leaf shops. In honor of their citrus flavored green teas, I'm brewing up some orange flavored sencha from my personal stash.
