Cold brew tea
Lately I've been looking for some good herbal teas. I don't really like the water in the town where I live. It has a bad flavor, and I need something to cover it up. Lemon will help a little, but I'm always looking for caffeine free options to flavor my water so I will drink enough of it. I find that carbohydrates increase inflammation, so I try to avoid them if possible. I tried a couple of no/low calorie water flavoring agents, but they are disgusting. There is a definite artificial sweetner aftertaste to these, not to mention what artificial sweetners sometimes do to my GI tract.
Since these are not viable options for water flavoring, I stumbled across some cold brew teas on sale at the grocery store this morning. I figured it was worth giving them a try. There were 2 flavors, and I chose the one that sounded the best.
Strawberry lemon orange blossom sounds good, doesn't it? You're supposed to let them steep in cool water for a minimum of 8 minutes, and these actually say to squeeze the bag (normally they say don't squeeze). The directions also say to use 12 oz of water. The only 12 oz drinking vessel I have is a mug.
I ended up measuring 12 oz water into my glass teapot and brewing for 8 minutes. The brew was a beautiful pink color just like the picture thanks to the hibiscus flowers.
Then I took a sip. AWFUL!!! It tasted like I was steeping straw. I think it possibly tastes even worse than chamomile tea. This stuff is REALLY BAD! I did not taste any strawberry, lemon, or orange. All I tasted was sadness. Sigh, it's so hard to find a good herbal tea.
Stur is 100% terrible. I hate stuff with stevia. (I'm hooked on the Mio lemonade, though.)
ReplyDeleteI guess the main lesson is that I should just learn to live with drinking nasty tasting water. Some days are worse than others, and some days I treat myself to bottled water. Part of me wonders if I know someone who would like this tea. Another part of me thinks I should be glad I only got one box and I should cut my losses and throw it out.
